Morals and Ethics of the chocolate seller

It saddens me that some still try to claim Dejan and presumably, the other "rescuers" are doing nothing wrong. Of course I understand, dogs in some countries can have horrendous lives and it's such an emotive subject that the morality and ethics of the situation become skewed.

Removing dog rescue as the subject, I am sure most would have a very different opinion.

A shopkeeper sells bars of chocolate, smuggled from abroad but knows they haven't gone through the correct import procedure and there is a slight risk somebody could get sick but they continue selling them for a number of years, would you question their ethics? Moreso if your child was buying and eating(interacting) with this chocolate.

One day, the same shopkeeper, has a problem with some of the chocolate and decides to stop selling it as if customers found out, it could be bad for business. Would you expect them to inform their customers in case somebody became ill and should they report the exporter to the authorities? Or are they justified in doing nothing and taking offence when the issue is then investigated?

Your local paper runs a story of possibly contaminated chocolate bars and you read that your corner shop had been selling this chocolate, you bought a few bars for beloved family members. Realising now that you or your loved ones were potentially at risk of becoming very ill, would you question the ethics of the shopkeeper and be upset that firstly, they sold the chocolate and secondly, on discovering a definite issue with the chocolate, did not put up notices informing customers of the issue and potential health risk.

Even sadder is that I have discovered many of those involved do not do this for the love of the dogs. Criminal gangs are involved, tobacco smuggling, suspected drug smuggling, dogs being brought in for fighting, it's a very sad state of affairs. You might not like or agree with how I am handling the mess Barnaby and I were thrown into a month ago but too many people have known about this for a number of years and failed to even attempt to stop it. In what other business or profession is it justifiable to act illegally? I have people contacting me for advise, some very worried and scared dog owners and whilst I do not mind, in the least, helping those people, this is the mess of those who were complicit and yet here I am cleaning it up for you.

Had everybody with knowledge of this illegal smuggling reported their suspicions, it would have flagged as a trend with APHA and they would have looked into it before now.

  1. Although many of us had our doubts about some of these organisations it is impossible to do anything without proof. I applaud what you have done and are doing now and hope it gets something done about the loopholes and lazy practises which have allowed this to happen.

    1. Thank Shelley, I really appreciate that. Knowing how conniving many of these people can be, I completely understand that they have fooled many people and that others have "suspected" something was going on but could never quite get all the pieces to put the puzzle together. This post was aimed at those who are sending me threats, abusive emails, libeling me in posts and on groups as they believe that dogs from Bosnia and Serbia should be allowed to enter the country illegally. Many still feel that the end justifies the means and regardless of the legalities and potential health risks, I am the one in the wrong for making an issue of it. I will be posting later today about the police report as unfortunately, yesterday was a horrific day for abuse and threats and 4 people have now been reported to the police. It's not the route I wanted to take but the bullying and inciting hatred has to stop. I am only reporting facts which can be substantiated whilst other are creating half truths and gossip to prevent this issue be given the credence and awareness it deserves and that is frustrating. It's a tough enough fight getting those in power to accept their recent efforts have done nothing to close the loopholes or to be effective against corrupt officials in other countries. The new intel unit does not work and that's from people in the profession and the attached task force has yet to see the light of day! Thanks again Nat
